Michel Blanc, a French actor, director, and screenwriter, has died at the age of 92

Michel Blanc, an acclaimed French actor, director, and screenwriter known for his comedic roles and his collaborations with some of the most renowned filmmakers of the French New Wave, has died at the age of 92.

Blanc was born in Paris in 1930 and began his career in theater in the 1950s. He made his film debut in 1958 in the film "Les Tricheurs" by Marcel Carné.

He went on to appear in more than 100 films and television shows, including "La Grande Vadrouille" (1966), "Le Dîner de cons" (1998), and "Les Choristes" (2004).

Blanc also directed several films, including "Je vous aime" (1980), "Tenue de soirée" (1986), and "Mauvais genre" (1997).

He won two César Awards for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, for his performances in "La Cage aux folles" (1978) and "Tenue de soirée" (1986).

Blanc was a member of the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, the organization that awards the César Awards.

He was also a Commandeur of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, one of the highest cultural honors in France.

Blanc's death was announced by his family on January 10, 2023. No cause of death was given.

Blanc is survived by his wife, actress Charlotte Rampling, and their two children.
